As part of the Wadhurst Platinum Jubilee Celebrations, all budding poets are invited to enter the Wadhurst Community Poetry Competition, arranged and brought to you by Wadhurst Warriors.

Guidance for budding poets!

Write a new poem with one of the following titles and send it to us
5pm on Tuesday 24th May 
at the shop or by e-mail.

“The Queen and I”

Guidance: Have you ever met the Queen? Tell us about it!
What does the Queen mean to you and the nation?
What would you ask the Queen if she came for tea?!


“70 Historic Years”

Guidance: How has the world changed since 1952?
What are the most important events of her reign?

Competition Details

Prizes will be awarded to entrants in three categories:

Category A – Under 10s

Category B – 10-16 year olds

Category C – 16 years and older

Entries can be:

Hand delivered or Posted to Barnetts Bookshop, High St, Wadhurst by Tuesday, May 24th, clearly stating Name, Phone Number and Age Category,

Emailed to: enquiries@barnettsbooks.co.uk. The email header should state “Poetry Competition Category A/B/C (as applicable)

The winning Poets will be notified by Wednesday June 1st and the 3 winning poems will be read at the various village events taking place during the Jubilee Bank Holiday Weekend. The decision of the judges is final and no challenge will be entertained!

By entering the competition, you are giving Barnett's permission to display your poem (or part of it) on this website, on our social media and in the shop and to make reasonable use of it within the context of the village community competition.
