Barnett's of Wadhurst

Your local independent book seller

Barnett's of Wadhurst has been serving customers from our delightful listed shop-front on Wadhurst High Street since 1982 and has become something of a fixture for readers of all ages with a loyal local customer base and a very welcome diaspora who continue to look to Barnett's to supply them (or their family locally) with books!

In the front of the shop, as well as the usual range of the latest fiction and classics, you will find a number of carefully selected novels from lesser known authors or independent publishers. We also have something of a global outlook in our "Crime & Thrillers" section, for some reason! â€‹

We can talk for hours about our History section, covering a breadth of historical periods and geographic range. If we haven't got it, and you want it, we'll probably want to read it too! Thanks to the very active Wadhurst History Society, we also have a unique range of "local interest" and local history for the Wadhurst/East Sussex region.

History spreads across the shop into our "personal history" section - biography, autobiography and life stories. We also love to pick up interesting leads in "social sciences", with a popular range of non-fiction covering economics, politics, current affairs, popular science, and the natural world.

In our back room, but very much a focus for us, is our newly renovated children's section, deliberately putting books within range of all of our younger readers. We have a newly built "wall of fiction" for independent readers up to early teens, and we have also provided a separate bookcase for our younger readers. And, of course, we have all the wonderful books we can remember reading to our own children - we hope our customers will enjoy them as much as we did!

Barnett's has always been known for the range of its stock in a small shop - with dedicated shelf space for Poetry, Gardening, Nature, Cookery, Music and Music writing, Pastimes & Games, Art, Religion, Travel, Health and other interesting reads.

We also stock a range of beautiful greetings cards, wrapping paper and stationery.
